My users who have IE8 are unable to use the gallery feature. When they click on a gallery thumbnail, they get the the darkened background, but the image itself never pops up. I noticed that there was a 'errors on this page' icon in IE, and upon investigation got the error 'Not implemented - confluence.macros.advanced:fancy-box.js.'

      I have attached a screenshot of the error dialog.

            [CONFSERVER-23077] Galleries not working with IE 8

            Hi

            Thanks for taking the time to raise this issue. As you are no doubt aware this issue has been on our backlog for some time now with very little movement.

            As this ticket not been touched within the last two years we are closing of this issue as we have more current and higher prioritised issues that we are focusing on.

            I'm going to close this to set expectations so the issue doesn't stay open for years with few updates. If demand for this picks up, we will reopen the issue.

            Mikko - Thanks very much for the tip. Doing as you suggested appears to have fixed things.

            We encountered this with Confluence 3.5.2 and in this case the immediate fix was to uncheck "Display intranet sites in Compatibility View" from IE 8 settings.

            I guess I meant 3.5.1.

            Firefox, Chrome, and Safari all work without any problems, and across various versions. It's just IE that has the problem as far as we have discovered.

            Glenn - thanks for the tip. Unfortunately our site is not in the compatibility view, so I can't check that.

            The SQL query does not do what is expected, I guess...

            mysql> use confluence;
            Database changed
            mysql> select * from plugindata;
            ERROR 2020 (HY000): Got packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes
            mysql>

            We were having a similar issue after we upgraded Confluence from 3.4.6 to 3.5.7.

            After a bit of investigation I found that a number of IE 8 users were still using Compatibility View across the site (due to being needed for some features of the the previous version).

            Once I removed our site from the "Websites you've added to Compatibility View" list in the Compatibility View Settings in IE 8 it worked like a charm.

            I hope that helps.

            Greg,

            Where did you get 3.5.10 from?

            Have you tried with other browsers? to see if the same issues occur.

            In addition could you please attach the following from your database:

            select * from plugindata;

            There might of been some old fancy box plugins installed.

            Thank you.

            Regards

            Vincent Choy
