Confluence PDF previews are not usable for my company. Although some TrueType chinese fonts are OK, MingLiu and DFKai-SB (the two most commonly used fonts in Taiwan) are not readable. Particularly MingLiu (serif) font.

The fonts are installed on the server and xpdf (on the server) can display them OK.

From what we've found, these TrueType fonts make heavy use of hinting. We believe that the Office connector is ignoring hinting when generating PDFs. MingLiu renders perfectly when rendered using viewppt from the original PPT file

            Hi irvingpop

Thanks for raising this issue. This has been on our backlog now for 4 years with very little progress being made in that time. Rather than leaving this here I'm going to close this issue as won't fix, I believe this better reflects the status of this ticket.

If the problem is raised again in the future we'll re-address it.

            Regards

Question: Is there a Debug Mode for viewpdf? Troubleshooting would go much faster if we could see:

            1. Source font definition
            2. Is there an Embedded font in the file, and is it being used?
            3. Which local font is to be used (Substitution)
              1. List of Local font candidates (like fontconfig's fc-match utility)

Confirmed. When the PPT is converted to PDF on Mac (OpenOffice 3.2), the MingLiu font looks OK in viewpdf. Mac must be performing a font substitution compared to Windows.

Reproduced locally using the provided files. Was not able to generate another PPT and export it to PDF for testing locally and achieve same results using Office 2008 Mac to create files using what I believe was PMingLiu.
