Edit in Office is unresponsive for PowerPoint documents using Office XP and IE

Clicking 'Edit in Office' for PowerPoint files has no action when using Office XP and IE. Have been able to replicate with both IE 7 and IE 8. Using Office 2003+ or Firefox/Safari allows editing.
