I can't really explain why this happens or what makes this particular powerpoint file special, but it causes reindexing to hang at 99% in Confluence 3.0.2. Confluence 3.1 indexes this file just fine. It was not clear which file was killing the index until after I added a logging patch to help track down the hung indexer thread and the specific file. The patch could probably be improved to reduce the amount of manual log parsing that you need to do afterwords.
Confluence 3.1 and 3.0.2 use different extractors/indexers so that's probably why it just works in 3.1. Anyway...
