Images in Word documents are automatically resized when importing to Confluence, to the point that any text is unreadable.

This only affects documents that are imported using Doc Import. Using the viewfile macro renders images correctly.

[CONFSERVER-15672] Images in Word documents resized on doc import

A test document has been added in support request 118908.
From our documents it looks like the smaller the text within an image the worse it becomes. Please note this is just an observation rather than from actual testing.

Quite a problem for us as well. Being forced to redo every image is quite a drag. Even copy-paste directly from the MS Word document does not work.

This is still a big problem!! Is there an word format that works since Atlassian can not replicate the problem and needed a document to test. Why does it work for Atlassian? We have tested with many formats and versions (97-2003 format) but all the images are getting scaled down to poor resolution. We are starting to use Confluence 5.2.5 in great scale now and the import word document with images is VERY needed.

Hi, we are having the issue with images simply being worse, have attached original .doc and the .pdf from the confluence page immediately after conversion.
            Confluence is 5.1.3
Hope these help as we could desperately do with this being better.

Example would be the primitive flow diagram on page 4 of the pdf where not only is resolution poor, but has been disproportionately scaled to render clock face as not round.

Here is a sample document with a picture that can be expanded in Word to see a clear readable image, but will be degraded if imported into Confluence. In Microsoft Word, when you size down an image, the resolution remains the same therefore you are able to expand that image at a later time. Sometimes you may have a document where you have a diagram blown up but it isn't necessarily readable. If you want to use that diagram in another document you can enlarge it and the resolution is still high. Confluence captures the size of the image as it appears in the word document rather that the actual resolution. This prevents you from having the ability to expand the picture at a later time without reducing image quality.

            All,

This was created from a support request many years ago. I've just tried to replicate the problem on the latest version (5.1.4) using a test document without any luck.

For anyone who's still seeing the problem, can you attach an example document that we can use to replicate? Keep in mind that the attachment will be publicly visible so please remove any sensitive content.

            Thanks!
            Michael

This one issue may be the difference between whether or not our company chooses to go with Confluence. Atlassian should really start to provide a fix.
