In 4.14 if you performed a Get Comments search request for an Effective diff, if the pull request had been updated and comment drift hadn't already been processed, it would be run on the fly (to ensure you got updated comments).
As a result of changes to the Comments API in version 5.x, the comment drift won't necessarily be processed in the scenario above.
