By way of further explanation, it would appear that some of the manifest files we are using with the repo tool come from sources outside of our control, e.g. from Android:

      https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest/+/android-4.4.2_r2/default.xml

As a result, we cannot edit the files to add the missing extension.

HTTP does not have this problem

To avoid entering your password with HTTP you'll need to add your password to the netrc file. In terms of SSH there is no workaround until we implement this improvement.

When working with an Android project this would mean entering your password for every of the 300 repositories when checking out. Is there a way to use something similar to ssh keys through http?
