Commits referencing (not closing; just referencing) issues by numbers

I know a commit with a message like close BCLOUD-123 or fix BCLOUD-123 would close the corresponding issue.

But sometimes I want to just mention the issue, not close it yet. I've tried commit messages like addresses BCLOUD-123 and my commit; BCLOUD-123 and it didn't work. The resulting commits do link to the issue, but there's no mention of them on the actual issue page.

I tried searching and even found something relevant, but this still feels like a separate feature request.
