Git plugin does not checkout branch

The Git plugin fetches the correct branch but does not checkout to the branch. This causes issues if the build scripts need to commit changes to Git as it will always go to the master branch. (e.g. build script modifies .csproj assembly infos and attempts to commit the change, it will commit to the incorrect branch). This will also affect tagging as the tag will be on the incorrect branch.
