Due to limitations of the original ZIP file format, and the TrueZIP library used to generate ZIP files, it is not possible to export a Bamboo instance when the resulting ZIP file, or the original size of any of its components, are larger than 4G.

We should adopt an export file format and that does not have this constraint. ZIP64? .tar.gz? .tar.bz?

We will need to maintain support for importing ZIP exports produced by older versions of Bamboo.

[BAM-1647] Cannot create export files larger than 4G

These improvements weren't in Bamboo 2.4, as this issue has hit me there on trying to export to upgrade to current (3.3)

            Hi Steve,

I'm sorry to hear that this has been causing you so much grief.

You'll be pleased to hear that I'm currently working on completely re-engineering Bamboo's import/export subsystem, so that it will properly handle very large data sets.

We are currently aiming to include these improvements in Bamboo 2.2, which we currently expect to release around late October.

Until then, you might find the advice at this page helpful.

If you need any further assistance, please raise a support request at support.atlassian.com, and we'll be happy to help.

            Regards,

We have been a customer for many versions of Bamboo and each time we upgrade we are forced to suffer because of this limitation. We have to manually expire builds for our several projects in order to successfully perform the export prior to upgrade (in order to get under the 4GB export limit). We're now at the point where we have to expire very important builds that correspond to official releases. This is unacceptable and may eventually force us to drop Bamboo and move back to our old in-house build system. The longer we use Bamboo the more severely this issue affects us.

Please make it a priority to fix this issue, especially if you want us to purchase the next version of the product. It seems absurd that my Bamboo export is limited to 4 GB when I've got the build-dir on a multi-TB SAN and I carry more than 4 GB of storage on my person in the form of a flash drive.
