Problem Statement
Following the recent UI rollout for Jira Automation flows, the Audit Log and Rule Details action text buttons have been replaced with small, icon-only buttons.
For desktop users, especially those on larger, high-resolution screens (e.g., 4K monitors) this change introduces significant usability and accessibility hurdles:
- Discoverability / Cognitive Load: Iconography alone creates ambiguity. Users have to guess what specific icons (such as the icon with checkmarks and lines) represent, or rely heavily on tooltips.
- Fitts's Law / Precision Clicking: The buttons are tightly clustered and small, requiring high precision to click the intended action despite ample white space being available on the desktop canvas.
- Loss of Consistency: Related elements like the "Return to rules" button feel similarly degraded in overall user experience.
Suggested Solution / UX Improvements
- Responsive Text Labels (High Priority): Implement a responsive layout where text labels are displayed alongside the icons on wider viewports/desktop screens, utilizing the available white space.
- Increase Padding/Spacing: Increase the touch/click target size and space out the icon buttons to prevent accidental clicks on adjacent controls.
- Revert Toggle or Opt-Out (Temporary): Provide an organizational or administrative option to preserve text-based buttons until responsive improvements are finalized
