Right now editing a comment will send the entire new comment to a Slack channel message, glutting up the channel and causing people to start ignoring messages there and complain it's too glutted up...

I'd be fine with it if it showed just the edits (in green and red) like the old-gen email notifications would show... nice and simple and nothing unnecessary.

There's no project app settings to change or disable this... a new or edited comment truncated to maybe x characters might be OK, but there really should be a way to at least disable comment edit notifications.

[API-6] No way to disable comment edit Slack notification

            Hey Dave,

you are correct, the screenshots in our message style preview are misleading. We actually set out to do truncation as depicted but we ran into difficulties both technically and via feedback from customers and made the call to include all of the comment with the extended view. However, we failed to update our screenshot there. I will make a note to get that fixed up.

So, yes, in extended view you will get the entire issue description or comment included in the notification. We know we have some work to do around customization of these notifications and there are already a few other customer request tickets in this project around customization. I encourage you to vote for those or let us know if we should create a new public ticket to track the feature set you would like to see where others can discover and vote for it as well.

Thanks so much and let us know if we can help more.

I don't know why my inline pasted screenshots aren't showing... not sure how to show you guys the problems.

The Message Style in the board channel notification setting indicates that the description or comment will be truncated to no more than three lines when set to Extended (Default shows NO lines, nothing beyond the title):

But in actual usage, NO lines are truncated in the comment with Extended on.

If I set it to Default, then it ALWAYS truncates to just 1 line...

So either the rules are still not sensible for team usage or the implementation is not matching what the settings are indicating.

OK we discovered I had to go into the channel in the Slack app and run the `/jira manage` command, which then gave me the settings screen which showed the actual channel name connected to the project (not #unknown). I don't know why it required us running a command to see that, but that doesn't seem right.

Now when we config the channels to the project, in each channel notification setting, "default" shows no initial comment... which is too little info. "Extended" seems to be as before, allowing too much info to show if there's 5 lines or more or multiple paragraphs.

This indicates that making a minor edit to a comment will still show the entire comment rather than just the line and characters that were edited as 'red strikethrough shows deleted text' and 'green strikethrough shows added text' as Jira had it years ago. Really we need sensible notification logic here and this still seems to be in the not-enough or too-much area.

When I go back to the project settings - https://[ourcompany].atlassian.net/projects/[project acronym]/settings/apps/jira-slack-integration__slack-config-page - I'm unable to config anything; there were two settings for the board name but they were pointing to channel #unknown... so I deleted them.

Now when I try to add a setting by selecting the team in the drop-down (our company name), under the Channels drop-down it says No matches found... what is going on?

I was able to set what kind of notifications went to which channels, now those options seem to have been completely changed and are inaccessible.

You can now configure comment notifications based on created, edited, or deleted. You can also change the notification style to show a more compact view if you want to leave edited on and just see that the change happened.
