Jira for Slack integration: Ability to disable "dedicated channel" feature

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

As a Jira admin, it would be nice to have the ability to disable the "Dedicated Channel" feature.

      Actual Behavior

When you link a Jira ticket to a Slack channel, it automatically sets the topic of the channel and you have to manually clear it to remove it
Since there's no limitation to the number of issues linked to a channel and the change to the topic happens at the moment one creates the link, it became an annoying behavior.

      Suggestion

It would be nice to have the ability to disable the "Dedicated Channel" feature.

[API-211] Jira for Slack integration: Ability to disable "dedicated channel" feature

            Hi!

First of all, we appreciate the feedback around our integration.

Regarding the Dedicated Channel feature, while it is possible linking more than one issue to the same channel, the original intent is to dedicate a channel to discuss one issue, for instance if there's an incident with a system and people need a place to discuss how to restore it.

We don't advise to use this feature just to link issues to a channel.

Some ways one can soft-link issues to channels or messages are:

            1. Right click on the Slack channel name in the left sidebar and click Copy link to get a URL pointing to that channel_._ Add such link to the issue as a comment or use a custom field.
            2. If the issue is related to a Slack message or thread, move your mouse over the Slack message, open the "..." menu, and click Copy link to get a URL pointing to the message. Add such link to the issue as a comment or use a dedicated custom field.
            3. If you have full connectivity between Slack and Jira, you can use Issue Mentions feature. Just include the issue key or a link to the issue in a message in the channel where the Jira Server bot is in and the integration will record it. Then, accessing the issue page in Jira will display a link in the sidebar "Mentioned in n channel(s)" where you can click and see all mentions in a popup.

            Comment [ Hi Henrique,

I think you might be using a different Slack app. The official Jira Cloud for Slack app does not have any dedicated channel functionality. You can find our app here: https://slack.com/apps/A2RPP3NFR-jira-cloud?next_id=0

With our app you would be able to setup notifications for a single issue or set of issues with our JQL filtering and we do not do any work to change the topic. Let us know if we can be of any assistance. ]
