It would be great to have space category available in CQL

I think space categories should be a filter in the recently updated and blog post macros as well.

Yes, and we did (Targeted Search).

I believe the underlying issue is lack of support for space categories in CQL. Looking for a ticket for that one... will be critical if we are going to port Targeted Search to Cloud.

Any movement? This is key for large instances...with Datacenter our this is even more critical!

0. So we would like to have at least a selectable Space Category parameter for searches, analogous to "labelText" except that it would limit the search results to items that lie in a space having the selected category.

Additional wishes:
1. One could set default search restrictions separately to different users (or, even better, groups), including (or at least) the Category parameter.
2. The user could override this.
3. The user *default would also apply to the suggestions *that Confluence makes when I start to type in the Search box or when I hit "Insert > Link" and start to type a link, or I am typing a link as a macro parameter or similar.
4. Space categories would also be found on the left column of the "search results" page.

+Reason: +currently we have big groups of people who only see the wiki spaces of their group. If we give them access rights to the spaces of the other groups, their search results list becomes a spam list (too many hits). "0." would solve this but require that the user always has to select the category by him/herself. 1. & 2. would free the users from that. "3." would correct the same problem with page suggestions, link making and macros etc.

For very large installations where the site is used for multiple functions and departments this is vital.

We have need of this also. Please add a new search field for space category. It would be helpful to limit a query to a certain group of spaces.

This would go a long way in resolving CONF-7227 as well.
