    Description

      (Re discussion with Charles)

A couple times someone's put 50 images as attachments to a page and included them on the page. After this, the person's sent an email to the whole company advertising the page, causing between 100 to 200 people to hit the page at the same time. This causes the Confluence installation to become so slow it's unusable. Other services on the same server seem unaffected even during this flash crowd so I think it's caused by some kind of a thread starvation within Confluence.

Charles: Permissions have to be checked on each attachment. Which means a database hit. Which means you quickly run out of connections and everything is waiting on the connection pool to free up. You could probably alleviate it somewhat by increasing the size of the db pool.
