pdf {viewfile} slide renderer creates vast amounts of garbage which lead to poor performance

The renderer that generates slides for the flash applet for the

macro generates a large amount of garbage.

This causes the VM to do 3.5-3.8 seconds of GC every 4 seconds, leading to an unusable application.
