We use groups extensively and there are a few little UI improvements that could make the feature so much more useful.

1. MAKE UI FOR SPECIFYING GROUPS LIKE SPECIFYING USERS - PROVIDE PICK-LIST POPUP: When you choose the "Specify User" drop-down box option in search, an "people" icon lights up that you can click on to get a pick-list of users to choose from. I'd like the same for whenever one has to "Specify Group". I'd like this for both SEARCH and for any other forms where one has to pick a group. UI should totally match the one provided for user acct selection.

2. ENABLE ABILITY TO RENAME AN EXISTING GROUP: JIRA does not have the ability to rename groups. As organizations evolve, dept names tend to change or merge. It's tough to keep track of old names and would be nice to rename. Right now we basically create a new group and manually re-add users to it before deleting the old group. That's annoying.

Both these are already open requests: JRA-1391 and JRA-2660.

Cool....Thanks for the prompt annotation and cross-reference, Neil. Any chance you could tell me what the progress has been on the 2 issues you've listed? Doesn't look like they've been touched in well over a year.

Brian Nguyen - 23/Jan/06 05:04 PM
Hi Roy,

I am going to close this issue as a duplicate you can watch the 2 link issues for information on progress.

At the moment, the issues are yet to be scheduled for a release as we have a number of requests to meet. So unfortunattely I cannot give you any specific information on progress.

Thanks,
Brian

Sure go ahead and close... But bummer that you have not scheduled these
into anything. Seems like it's been well over a year since initially
requested and this is really hampering enterprise acceptance of JIRA
because our admins want us to leverage the capability of user groups.

If it is not scheduled for 3.5 or 3.6 does that mean that it definitely
won't make it in either of these? i.e. earliest would be 3.7 (which I
presume to be Q3/2006 or later)?

Thanks for the courtesy note btw

Hi Roy,

Please have a look at the following document which explains how Atlassian schedules new features and improvements:
http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DEV/Implementation+of+New+Features+and+Improvements

As the issues are not currently scheduled, unfortunately I am unable to provide any estimates for their delivery.

Thanks,
Anton
