How can our customer search for "not empty" (custom) fields without searching a particular search term/ phrase?
The content/ value of the field is irrelevant - we want to search for issues where a particular field is filled in at all.

Our customer's main problem is the following:
How can we filter all Standard Issue Types (or Sub-Task Issue Types), which already have an Original Estimate?

But there are other scenarios (with custom fields involved) where we miss the possibility of searching for fields "that are not empty"
(a) find all issues where there is any "Fixed in Build" (Text Field (< 255 characters) with Free Text Searcher)
(b) find all issues which already have a "Release Note" (Free Text Field (unlimited text) with Free Text Searcher)

I think that we could do this by indexing the null value (JRA-7909) and then searching for all issues without the null value.

Beth Winslow Gregory - 24/Jan/06 10:36 AM
Related to this, I'd really like to be able to search for null values.

Daniel black - 04/Apr/06 07:34 PM
I agree with null values and I think you get both for indexing null.

Jeff Fry - 15/Aug/06 11:45 AM
This would make me very happy as well. Our scenerio:

We have a custom field with ticket numbers for any bug that has an associated support ticket. maybe 5% of all items have one, and it would be VERY useful to pull up all items where Support Ticket is not null, and then sort them (say by component).

This would assist as us well.

We have a workaround field, and want to look at all issues with workarounds.

Hello,

The Atlassian team is doing some housekeeping. This support issue will be closed and for any further comments on empty / not-empty field, please contribute it at JRA-7909.

Cheers,
Yuen-Chi Lian
