To help manage large numbers of saved filters (personal or shared), we need to add categories to filter subscriptions.

e.g. Using tabs under the saved filter portlet & manage filters screen, the categories could be personal/my, favourite and all.

Personal - would be all the filters the user has created - with a checkbox next to all to mark them as favourites.
All - would be a list / search function (depending on number of filters available) that would also include a check box next to each to mark it as a favourite.
Favourites - would be any filter marked as a favourite.

It seems this can be implemented as a portlet, right?
What is the work involved to do that?

The portlet part could be done as a plugin, but the association of categories to filters would need an extra table in the database and some work in JIRA's core.

Hi Ben,

As part of our JIRA 3.13 release we have improved the functionality of filter sharing.

You will now have several tabs available from the manage filters screen: favorites, my, popular, and search. These categories are similar to what you suggested and should help address the issues you describe when dealing with a large number of filters.

We expect JIRA 3.13 to be released in early Sept.
