If two projects have overlapping components, I should be able to select those components to filter on, while searching.

Hi Keith,

This is a current limitation in JIRA. We are hoping to improve on this in the future.

Thanks,
Anton

We had to implement this (along with Fix Version/s and Affects Version/s) as custom fields in order for multiple projects to search. (JRA-10245) (add the custom in the screen and hide the system ones; of course, we had to migrate the data first)

Just presenting the system 'component/s' field and allow for a text search would already help.

Please not that the right way to do this is provide a UNION of search options (for fields: components, fix for, and affects versions). This is the way Bugzilla does it. We just migrated our data from Bugzilla, so we are very disappointed by this short coming.

So for example, if I have projects X and Y, components A and B for project X and components A and C for project Y, the searching across projects A and B should allow me to select on components A, B, and C for my search.
