We need to have the Description field in our Excel export. I customized my Issue Navigator screen to have the following columns (in this order):
Type, Key, Created date, Summary, Description, STatus, Priority, Reporter, Affects Version/s, Fix Version/s, Resolution Notes.

Resolution Notes is a custom filed of type Free Text Field.

When we export this to Excel using the Current Fields link and try to print it, Excel hangs indefinitely and shows as Not Responding in Task Manager. After waiting more than 5 minutes for a response we wind up ending the task.

Brian,

Can you give us some more information? For example, does the unmodified Excel version print correctly?

Does it depend on the amount of data that is sent to Excel?

Additional investigation has me thinking this is due, in part at least, to a nuance of our network. I think the linked issue IDs are the cause.
When the Excel file is opened our network is displaying a proxy server log in dialog, but not immediately - it takes some time. The only reason I can think this dialog is appearing is Excel is trying to extablish a connection back to JIRA.
If I attempt to print this file before logging in to the proxy server - or before that dialog even displays - Excel will hang. If I wait and log in to the proxy server then print everything is fine.
I would say this is not necessarily a bug of JIRA (although having the ability to export a plain old Excel file with no links in it might be nice).

Brian,

Can I close this issue? Is there anything more than needs to be added?

Neal Applebaum - 21/Oct/06 10:36 AM
Brian - if this is still an issue for you, leave a comment here. I have an idea that might solve your problem.

Brian Sutton - 23/Oct/06 07:40 AM
Hi Neal.
This appears to no longer be an issue for us. I had success in creating Excel exports with Description included using our current version of JIRA and MS Office.

Thanks
