There is no documentation that explains what the consequences are of JIRA not having access to the local disk. I assume that attachments cannot be stored and searching won't work. The resolution to this issue should either be to improve the documentation or supply a switch that will automatically shut JIRA down if it can't get to the local disk. A third option would be to send a distress email to the admin if the local disk can't be reached.
