This would be great since the reports are so limited.
Reports are really a huge weakness in Jira. A tool is desparately needed to expand the current functionality of filters. Along with filters, it should let you choose the columns, organize the columns, allow multi-level sorting and then be able to save and publish the reports to other users. At the very least, this simple capability is needed. More complex reporting tools would be a definite plus.
We would love to see more reporting capabilities in the next version of JIRA as well. We are currently using JIRA 3.12.2 Enterprise with a Commercial license.
Jira is such a goldmine of company data that the potential of making business decisions from [cross-project] reporting would be a huge selling point. The Managers that approve the purchasing of Jira would more easily be swayed if THEY saw direct benefit from it, and not just the end users. Right now, we have to roll our own using SQLPlugin+Chart Plugin against the database schema..
Reporting and creating good looking, easy to understand tables/charts is not possible today in Jira. This is a basic feature missing today. Our customers is screaming for better reports/statistics and we are really struggling hard to make this happen. Can we hope for some improvements in later versions of Jira or is it time to start looking for other systems that provide these features out-of-the-box?
I agree that a web-based report creation tool would be invaluable to every single user, developer, and administrator of jira and I would love to see this feature added. The current mechanism to create a report requires in depth knowledge of java, xml, html, apache velocity, and SQL. That's a rather steep learning curve that could be mitigated with a flexible report creation tool.
