If you set any field to be required the csv importer does not check that the field has been set or provide a default value.

Related to this, the importer doesn't use the default values for fields. For example, if you don't import a priority for the issues, they end up not having a priority at all. Then when you go to edit the issue, Jira defaults to the first item in the pulldown and hence saving the issue results in a Blocker priority issue.
