Now that we have the new importer infrastructure, we should create an importer that connects to another JIRA system, and requests the XML view of a filter.

It then uses that XML view to as the source for an XML importer locally.

This would allow people to migrate issues from one JIRA system to another easier.

We really need whole-project export/import --> so we can migrate projects between instances of Jira servers.

Hi Tim,

I agree that this would be a useful adding to JIRA. Unfortunately there are a lot of features that seem to be much more popular at the moment:
http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA?report=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.project:popularissues-panel

Please vote fo rthis issue to increase its popularity.

At the moment one thing you can look at is to use the Excel export of a filter in JIRA, save results as a CSV and then use JIRA CSV importer:
http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/latest/csv_import.html

This solutionis not ideal, however and a fully integrated project exporter would definitely help.

Anton
