Adding a comment only on the originating issue when linking issues

It might just be me, but I get really cobnfused when I see comments that are created from when people create links. It seems that they appear in both the issue the link is being created from and the target issue. This means that comments that makes sense on the original issue sometimes can be very confusing in the target issue.

eg. JRA 8326 and JRA-4619

We should be able to at least choose to not add the comment for the target issue. I would be tempted to turn it off really

The problem is that adding comment to both issues was actually a feature request which we closed in teh passed.

Probably a good idea to add a check box, whihc when set will add a comment to both issues. I agree that the checkbox should be unset by default.

I can see your dilemma. Sometimes, it's useful to have the comment attach to both issues. Sometimes it's confusing. Can't please everyone all the time. So I think Anton's suggestion is a good one. Offer an option when linking "Add comment to linked issue", which when enabled, would do as it does now - add a comment to both issues. But you'd probably want a user (not system) preference to set the default behaviour as well. And if you implemented the ability to Edit comments (JRA-1100), no-one would know about Anton's poor spelling

It's not my spelling - it's the lack of typing skills
