Currently there is no way to specify more than one user as assignee or reporter when creating a filter. Also, there is no way to allow users to create groups to use 'filter groups' w/o giving them administrator privileges.

This has nothing to do with allowing an issue to be assigned to more than 1 developer (ref 1802).

The use case here is a large development group with several team leaders managing several projects. Often developers working on the same component report to different managers - so managers cannot use a simple group to get a list of all the issues their developers are working on.

In this case the only way to resolve is to either 1) create a list of group names based on the manager name which contain developers who are currently reporting to them or 2) allow managers to create filters specifying multiple users in the assigned to and reported by filter fields.

Option #2 is superior as it reduces the work load of the supporting IT staff and reduces frustration of the SW managers who otherwise have to wait for IT to fullfill their requests and then wait for the system to be reindexed in order to use the filter.

As this is important to us I've tried to link it to every issue somewhat related.

Yes, in addition to being able to select a group (JRA-2660) it would also be good to be able to select more than one individual and probably more than one individual AND a group.

This is a huge issue for my team/company.
in fact had I known this was an issue I would have voted to go with another product.

if this is not addressed quickly I may still, we have only been using it for three weeks, not to late to go back to Mantis and start the search over again.

Jeff, please also vote for my (linked) issue JRA-11165.

As an aside, while I agree with you that this would be a nice feature, I don't think it's big enough not to purchase JIRA because of it. After all, there is a workaround of creating lots of groups. I'm not an expert Mantis user, but I've used it, and while it's a nice tool, it doesn't offer nearly the same 'project level' management of issues as JIRA. I hope this issue isn't a show stopper for you.

We have added this capability as part of JIRA 4.0 which is currently in beta.

You can now use JQL to accomplish this!

For more information about JQL, the beta JQL reference guide is available online: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Advanced+Searching

JIRA 4.0 beta 2 is currently available for download:
