When specifying a portlet in the atlassian-plugin.xml - it is necessary to specify an i18n string and provide a properties file with the associated key value pair.

If the name is specified in the atlassian-plugin.xml, the portlet will not display the correct name and the console logs a number of errors that the name cannot be retrieved.

It should be possible to simply specify the name in the atlassian-plugin.xml file without having to cater for i18n.

This is a pain in the butt for me too. I have no interest in localizing jira - I just want to build english portlets for it so I should be able to specify the plugin name in the xml file. Tightly coupling portlet development with i18n is burdensome if your not localizing Jira.
