Currently there is no way to notify the 'leads' of each component identified in an issue. It would be nice to have the ability to create a notification type for this where if two different component were selected by the user when the issue was created both component owners would get a notification.

This feature would significantly enhance our ability to integrate JIRA into our current processes.

I'm voting for this feature. Generally more fine tuning of the issue notification would be welcome.

Bernard Durfee added a comment - 23/Jun/05 02:17 PM
Yes, this issue is important as we try to keep the number of projects low. So each project ends up containing many components that can have different owners.

Miro Lehky added a comment - 07/Jul/05 08:51 PM
This would be a great feature. We have a project into which we log all support calls. Each project is setup as a component and this would allow for each project to be notified.

Since this tickets now has 33 votes, any ETA as to when this will make it in a release? Can someone explain why one would take the time to create component owners since there is no auto-assignment or notification support for this concept? Are there any work arounds other than having the project owner manually assigning tickets to the component owners?

Forget my comment above about a workaround - I just noticed the external Confluence link that has an add-on for this. Thanks.

Chris,

You can auto-assign an issue to a Component Lead by:

  1. Browse to the Project Adminstration page
  2. Select the desired project
  3. Click the link Select assignees for components
  4. For each Component select the Component Lead radio button.

All issues will now be auto-assigned to the Component Lead.

Cheers,
Nick

Added ComponentLead notification type. In Enterprise edition, notifications can now be sent to component leads. Option is not displayed for other editions
