Comments not viewable in JIRA after upgrade to FishEye plugin 5.2.1

Symptom

After upgrading from the bundled version (5.0.4.1) to 5.2.1, the activity module shows an error instead of comments, history, etc. (see attached screenshot).

The following will be seen within atlassian-jira.log:

Error rendering 'com.atlassian.jira.jira-view-issue-plugin:activitymodule'. Please contact your JIRA administrators.

Workaround

Disabling the plugin or downgrading it (i.e. removing it from <JIRA HOME>/plugins/installed-plugins and restart JIRA) is a workaround to get comments back.

Bug Replication

• install a blank JIRA 5.1.2 instance (also tested with JIRA 5.0.7),
• create a sample project and issue (noticing that there is not error in the * activity module on the 'View Issue' page),
• go to the UPM and upgrade the FishEye plugin to 5.2.1
• view the sample issue again.
