When a user re-opens a bug that has been marked resolved, he or she should be able to change the fix-for version (assuming appropriate permissions). This is important because the bug might be marked fix-for a version that has already been released. In this case, it's too late to fix it for that version, and the re-opened bug might be missed in filters of bugs for upcoming releases.

(PS This just happened to me – I didn't see the re-opened bug until too late.)

Or maybe better:

Leave the old 'fix for' and add a new one for the next release. Combined with the possibility to set the status per 'fix for' instead of per issue.

Hi David,

I think the new "Screen Configuration" feature available in JIRA 3.2 will address this issue.

With this feature, you can configure each screen to display/hide each field as required for each specific operation - e.g. open, close, reopen issue.

In this case, the 'Fix For' field could be added to the 'Reopen' screen.

JIRA 3.2 is due out for BETA release within the next week - maybe you could test this feature and see if it addresses your requirements adequately.

I just came across this issue in a search, and I believe Keith's comment is accurate. Since 3.2 I am able to set any field value, likr Fix for version, when re-opening an issue.
