It would be very handy to send an optional email when adding a comment. Nice if there could be a drop-down box to select a user in the project.

All   Comments   Work Log   Change History      Sort Order: Ascending order - Click to sort in descending order

Maybe just automatical setup watching on issue if somebody post a comment to issue?
Then every next comment post will send messages to watchers

...that function is nice but not suitable in my case.
The need is to inform different people in a project with a specific comment for an issue, a comment that affects more than just the assignee for example. In this case you have to go back and use an email again - and then you got lose ends, and in worst case even lose control of the issue.

Close to this matter is also my need to assign more than one person for an issue. Quite often I have more than one person assigned for an issue even if it's only one that has the "responsibility" for the issue. If my first suggestion sounds a bit odd this will perhaps be found even odder, so I keep I for a while.

It would be usefull in other use-case.

Company sells box product.
Support team works with customers putting to JIRA clear bug cases (e.g. filters ordinary Q&A cases itself).

I am developer assigned to such case. I need to ask original reporter (customer, not a support team member) about something. I know his(her) e-mail.

I'm putting a comment and put customer's e-mail to that optional "To"-field.

When he(she) replies, the reply will be automatically added to the issue via standard CommentLogger and I get a notification.

Very convenient!

I've put JRA-1893 some ago and it seems the same.

To JIRA Team and Community,

yesterday I did a JIRA demo - audience:
long-time experienced Unix developer.

Their focus: to remain and become more efficient with the help of JIRA.

They got a lot of very interesting feedbacks I would like to share with you and I'm very interesting in your comments/feedbacks:

Description:
If posting a commment, to have an option to mail either the comment or the whole issue to other people.

The comment mask should offer at least:

"Notify"

  • to: [entry field for comma separate mail address]
  • cc: [entry field for comma separate mail address]
  • bcc: [entry field for comma separate mail address]

Options: [ ] mail hole issue - [ ] only this comment

(BTW, a list box e.g. with a list of JIRA groups etc. is unnecessary).

Reason:
The don't want to change the tool (from JIRA to a mailer) just to complete a process they started in JIRA.

Without this feautre:
1. User had to wait till the comment arrives with the text as an e-mail (or make a copy to clipboard)

2. Change from JIRA to Mailer

3. Than the mail had to be forwareded (or creating a new one and pasted) and send it the people user wants to notify.

4. And if they just want foward the comment, all the rest of the JIRA information had to be stripped before

Too many steps just to complete the same process.

What you think?

Would you please change the affected version of JRA-2159 to 3.03?

Thanks.

Update to my comment regarding this issue:

Using watchers list is not an acceptable solution if you just want to notify several persons for a specific comment occasionally.

Hi Ahmad!
You've got a nice audience. I agree with the arguments listed.
Go for it - this feature will help many users. I assume it also must be easy to create...
(I don't have permission to change version on this issue.)

Ahmad,

Sounds like an interesting feature. It might be worth e-mailing the jira-users list and see if you can get more people to vote for it!

Cheers

Mark C
