When adding a task it would be useful if a DUE DATE could be included (if applicable). That way email reminders could be sent out to the assignee reminding them when a task needs to be completed.

The system could then highlight those tasks that are OVERDUE in nice big red letters as a reminder to everyone.

Sorry to push this back but I don't think it will make the 1.4 release. I want to integrate it with the 'issue calendar' too (~~JRA-412~~).

I think due dates and times would be needed for all issues. This would help atleast in maintenance and support projects where the fixes have deadlines coming from service level agreements with the customers.

To make it work even better, the due dates could be set automatically per priority and project. The default deadlines could then be set in project settings.

Using Priorities to assign initial due dates would be interesting, and useful.

My thought on due dates was that that a version would have a due date, and that items attached to a version could have minus N days due times. That way if you move a deadline, all items attached to that deadline move with it.

I know this is one of the most popular feature requests, but we are pushing it back a version due to time constraints.

Good news is that 2.0 is nearly here, so you get a whole heap of new functionality!

Many people (including us) will have added 'Due date' as a custom field. How will the migration to a Jira 'Due date' happen when it arrives?
