      Gadgets Replace Portlets

Before commenting or voting, please note: Portlets have been replaced by Gadgets in versions of JIRA since 4.0 and Confluence since version 3.1, both released in 2009. This is a new but essentially incompatible technology change. Customers using recent versions of each of these products should stop using portlets altogether. If you have custom-developed portlets, it is advisable that you port this code over to the gadget technology which is a more widely supported technology based on a standard called Open Social. In the future, all Atlassian's products will support shared content in the form of gadgets as opposed to portlets. At some point in the future (not yet scheduled), portlets will no longer be supported in JIRA at all.

This issue relates specifically to the fact that versions of JIRA since 4.0 no longer use portlets to display the JIRA dashboard and as a result, the mechanism for configuring a portlet has been effectively disabled. Although there is a "legacy portlet bridge" which enables configured portlets to still be displayed, configuring new ones requires knowledge of an exact URL.

In older versions of Confluence, he RunPortlet URL is essential to configure a Confluence's JIRA Portlet macro. Please see the "Obtaining the JIRA Portlet URL" section on this page:

Currently, there is no way for users to find this URL with the advent of the legacy portlet bridge.
