On the Look & Feel page, we allow users to specify a URL for the JIRA logo (displayed in the header). This can be absolute (http://...) or relative to the JIRA webapp root.

The problem is:

  • Many admins do not have access to upload images to the JIRA webapp, and anyway any image there will be lost on the next JIRA upgrade, unless explicitly copied.
  • An absolute http:// URL to an image will result in an IE "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items" warning when JIRA is used over https.

So if you're running over https and don't have a public https URL for your image, you're out of luck.

JIRA needs a mechanism whereby customers can upload their logo image, and have it served within the JIRA URL space.

If we were going to store the image, we would probably do it in the database.

The same imrovement also applies to all thing where an icon can be customised. As far as I know these are:

  1. Issue Types
  2. Statuses
  3. Priorities
