Cannot make any configuration changes on Original Estimate Field. We don't want it to show in the Open issue step but we want it to show in a transition and we want it to be required. That field does not show up in any configuration screens?

Hi Gage,

I am closing this issue as a duplicate of JRA-5783. If you'd like to receive updates on it, please add yourself as a watcher on that issue. This is one of the popular issues, for more information about how we schedule new features please read Implementation of New Features and Improvements document.

Kind regards,
Dushan

Dushan, I don't believe this issue is the same as the issue you linked it to(JRA-5783). The original estimate field is part of Time Tracking and is not configurable in anyway, while many other fields related to the original estimate field are (ie Summation Original Estimate, etc..)? Is this really on the roadmap, because some of the comments related to JRA-5783 seem to have been overcome.

Thanks

Hi Gage,

Sorry for the confusion.

There are two parts to this.

To make the Original Field required, you need to make the "Timetracking" field required. The Timetracking field is available in the Field Configuration:
http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/latest/issuefield_configuration.html

However, if you make the Timetracking field required, you will need to ensure it is entered when an issue is created. All required fields must be specified when the issue is created.

This is why Dushan has asked you to vote for and watch JRA-5783.

The second part is that it is not currently possible to make adjustments to the time tracking fields, or log work during workflow transitions. The feature request for this is JRA-6749.

Cheers,
Anton

Anton, thank you soooo much. That solved half of our problem. I've attached an screen shot of a transition screen and it has some time tracking fields in it. Any thoughts on why these can be config'd and the original estimate can't be.

Gage,

You are right, you can put the "timetracking" field on a screen that is shown for a particular workflow transition. This will allow to adjust the estimate when transitioning the issue. You will not be able to log any work, however. This is what JRA-6749 is about.

The screenshot shows functionality about an unsupported JIRA plugin which is not built by Atlassian. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the plugin, so I cannot really help. However, it appears that this plugin will allow you to make the timetracking field required on workflow transitions.

The best thing to do, is to determine which plugin provides this functionality, and to ask questions to its author. Or post on the JIRA forums, where other JIRA users may help.

Cheers,
Anton
