Problems importing usernames with spaces into a User Picker field

XMLWordPrintable

In a CSV or tab-delimited file, usernames that I want to import are in the format: "firstname lastname". We are integrated with LDAP, so all users are in this format.

When I try to import, I'm trying to populate a User Picker field. I choose not to Create new users.

For whatever reason Jira can't find existing users and instead pops the message that I need to create users in the format: firstnamelastname (no space).

The importer does not properly recognize the space as a valid character for importing into User picker fields.

I filed a support ticket late last year and Andreas kindly created a username mapper that can import users with spaces in their name.

I feel like a special mapper shouldn't be needed. If I provide a valid username in an import, JIRA should recognize it, whether or not it has spaces. It should stop trying to be clever (auto-account creation) or at least have an option to turn that off. Actually, the option is there, but it doesn't work if usernames contain spaces.
