I would like to be able to limit what users (roles) are able to modify individual fields. For example, I only want to allow particular people (project managers) to be able to select a fix version in an issue. However, it seems that any user who can edit an issue, including the reporter, can set the "fix version" value.

Hi Dean,

This is a popular feature request JRA-1330, which is unfortunately not trivial. Please see the extensive comments on JRA-1330.

The modification of the Fix For Version field is protected by the Resolve Issue permission. For more information on permissions and how to manage these, please see:
http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/latest/permissions.html

Cheers,
Anton

Hi Anton,

That makes sense. I'm really just trying to allow our project managers to set the "fix version" field as a way of grouping work issues and not allow others. I can trust our developers to not mess with that field, and they are the only other ones that will have the resolution permission. That will work for me.

Thanks,
Dean Vermeire

Actually, the ability to change the permission for setting Fix-for version (from whoever is allowed to resolve an issue) is already an open enhancement request, aside from the more generic JRA-1330.

See JRA-4679 and JRA-8890
