Hi,

I just installed Jira 3.7. I really like the new feature "project roles" because it simplifies the administration of groups.

Another change (which comes with the "project roles" feature) is that the users who have the permission "administer project" automatically can manage the roles and therewith the users of the project. (I hope I am right. Please correct if not.) As the project administrator is able to add all users who are in the user base, I can't allow them to manage the users of the project. On the other way round I need an project administrator because he/she has to manage components and version on their own.

Is there a way to restrict project administrators to "manage components/versions" or disable "user management" for them?

I really hope that there's a way to do that. Otherwise I can't use the new feature "project roles".

Andreas, would you consider changing this from Improvement to Bug? It might get Atlassian's attention more

Hi Neal,

Sorry, but this issue is not a bug, but an improvement. There's nothing currently wrong with the roles implementation with regards to this issue. This would simply be an extension (read 'improvement') of the current roles functionality. I doubt that making it a bug would change the attention we pay to this issue, since we know that it really is an improvement.

However, having said that, I will bring this issue up in our next planning meeting to see if it can get scheduled in anytime soon.

Cheers,
Andreas

Hi Adreas,

I also consider this being a bug (please see my linked issue). I find it hard to see where there is an improvement if you don't use Project Roles. Security settings should at least make us able to have the same security setup than before Project Roles was implemented.

Regards,
Lars
