We also use OpenOffice, and it used to work fine with the "Export to Excel" functionality. After upgrading to 3.6.4, it no longer works. Jira now sends an HTML document, which OpenOffice opens in the HTML editor (instead of the spreadsheet).

Håvard,

I assume you are talking about the Issue Navigator Excel view. I tested this in 3.6.1, 3.6.4 and HEAD. In all of these OpenOffice associates these files with OpenOffice Writer/Web instead of OO Spreadsheet.
Which version of Jira were you previously using that dealt with these files correctly?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
-Daniel

Before upgrading to 3.6.4, we were running 3.5.2. I really hope you can get the functionality back, as it's a major part of how we are (eh, were...) using Jira.

Hi Håvard,

This is not due to a change Jira has made but rather, one from OpenOffice. There is a bug logged for this issue, you can see it at http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=52639. This issue has been marked as INVALID, with the comment:

JA: the HTML document attached can be opened in Calc by manually selecting the
filter "HTML Document (OpenOffice.org Calc)(*.html; *.htm). Closing issue as invalid

This means that to open an XLS file with HTML content you need to:

  1. In any openoffice application go to: File --> Open
  2. Set the filetype to "HTML Document (OpenOffice.org Calc)(*.html; *.htm)"
  3. Make sure the xls file can be seen (ie: by entering *.xls in the file name textbox)
  4. Open the file

I know this in not an optimal way of opening these files, but I see no other way of opening these files with oo-calc without the OpenOffice software changing back to their original behaviour.

Cheers,
Daniel

Yes, it seems like you're right. It makes our use of Jira a lot more cumbersome, but it seems like the problem has to be fixed in OpenOffice, not Jira...

Daniel Hurst - 12/Oct/06 06:27 PM
Håvard,

Maybe if you could roll back to OpenOffice 2.0.0 it might fix the problem. This may may have been a problem introduced in 2.0.2. Apart from this, I will close the issue as there is not much we can do at this end.

Hope this helps and thanks for the feedback.

Cheers,
Daniel
