This is the longest running operation within JIRA. Should provide feedback to user on progress.... A nice little ajaxy progress bar would be nice. Shouldn't be too hard either.

Our system times out if we're applying a workflow to a project with a large number of issues.

Just casting my vote for this improvement.

Activating workflows are quite long and it would be nice to know how far along its progressed or if its stopped.
Some sort of indication in the logs would suffice as well. (I couldn't find anything that looked related)
