Adding in a note to reflect that the new MSFT tool is replacing VSS.
We're currently about to start a couple of new .NET projects in TFS, and plan to migrate older VSS based projects to TFS in the near future.
We also use Subversion for Java based development. All teams, regardless of whether they use Subversion or TFS for source control will continue to use Jira for issue tracking, and it would be very positive if we could offer integration with both systems. I notice this issue has now been open for a long time, during which Microsoft has released it's TFS/Team System products, however there still seems to be limited interest in this integration (looking at the vote tally) and no recent activity. It would be useful to see some definite progress on this, TFS has item tracking features built-in, and if no Jira integration will be possible within the project development phase it might be better from our perspective to use those, with Jira only used for customer issue submission. Owen,
I must admit that I am not an expert when it comes to Microsoft systems. We are working on a VSS plugin: Does this help? Cheers, Anton,
Thanks, I'd followed the link in from that page TFS is a huge project lifecycle system, the source control part of it, Team Foundation Version Control (TFVC) is different from VSS. Like you I'm no Microsoft expert, but I don't think the VSS plugin can read TFS repositories (which are based on a SharePoint Reading between the lines here For our organisation this integration would be a bonus, but is not a necessity, and given the general lack of other people requesting this I wont be holding my breath waiting for it! I have no problems with a company prioritising compatibility with open systems (eg. Subversion) over proprietary ones like TFS. This is very importent for us! We would love to use Jira on top of TFS comoany wide. Please let me know if you have a time estimation and/or how complex it will be for us to develop it ourselves.
As a quick note to anyone who may be working on a tool for this, you might be interested in these codeplex pages that a colleague pointed out to me: EDIT: The following page is more concerned with issue import/export between Jira and TFS, as opposed to version control tracking/plugins, but it may be of use to anyone who ends up here while researching Jira/TFS synchronisation issues. Any progress on integration with TFS? We are using TFS for version control/build management and for issue tracking. We would prefer to utilize Jira for issue tracking (especially for the non-engineers), but... don't want to lose the intergration.
Hi Burt,
At the moment we do not have plans for looking at integrating JIRA with TFS, so the links mentioned in the comments above are probably the best source of currently available options. Just for my information, what sort of integration are you looking for? Is it mainly source control integration like offered by the VSS plugin: Cheers, Like Owen Cater I would love to see TFS support for Jira as well as for Bamboo, Crucible etc. I am working for a company, who are developing both .NET and Java solutions but both technologies are using TFS as the code repository.
Jira support for TFS would improve ROI and position Jira as a best of breed platform for both environments in my opinion Cheers, |
