I have a new bug report for Confluence.

Go to Edit Space Permissions page for any space.
Click on the magnifying class to find a new client (see first screenshot).
It works fine in FireFox (v2.0.0.3) but, in IE (v7.0.6000.16448) I get an error on page message on the bottom of the screen and nothing happens.

This worked fine in 2.4.2, but in 2.5.1 it's not working.

This is not just IE 7. IE 6 is not working as well.

I have experienced this bug using Confluence Enterprise 2.5.1 build 806.

It happens when I click the magnifying glass icon next to the "Grant permission to" text field. The contents of the field don't seem to affect the result, the error always occurs and the search feature is unuseable.

It only occurs in IE (didn't try IE7, works in Firefox) for me as well, but the message I get is:

Line: 442
Char: 1
Error: Invalid Argument
Code: 0

the URL it refers to is {site}/confluence/spaces/editspacepermissions.action?key=ENT

"ENT" is the space key I was editing permissions for.

I've tried turning off the pop-up blocker and reducing security settings but have had no success.

This is fixed in 2.5.3 – please upgrade.
