In general, handling of space scoped templates is unintuitive. Let's say I want to view a template called My Template in a space called My Space:
1. Go to the Space home page
2. Click Space Summary
3. Click Browse Templates (for this page)
4. Click on my template name from the list
Now I'm on the View Template page, on which my options are Edit, Remove, and Add New Global Template. But I can't add a new Space template, which seems odd since I'm working with a space-scoped template.
The breadcrumbs also say Dashboard > Templates > My Template > View.
Am I out of My Space now? If I click on Templates in the breadcrumb, I get the global Browse Templates page, on which My Template doesn't show up. To get back to My Space (I probably want to make a page using My Template) I have to go back to the dashboard & find My Space again.
I suggest these changes:
- List ALL templates in the Browse Templates page (subject to user permissions, of course).
- There's already a 'Scope' column - change this to 'Space' and if the template is global, list <Global> or something instead.
- To the View Template page, add two page actions, Add New Template to My Space, and Create Page From This Template. If the template is global this could be left off.
- To the Page Operations on regular pages, add an Add Page From Template link, if any templates exist.
Alternately you could go the route of moving template administration under the space heading, but I'd personally prefer the above.
