Allow user macros to be 'inline'

From a user:

"I think that the position of the "x" characters in the above make clear that the
unwanted newline is not in the result of
$renderedContent=$globalHelper.renderConfluenceMacro($query), so no manipulation
of $renderedContent is going to help. For some reason, the user macro execution
process is adding newlines to what I want to return.

Is there some sort of a context that I can manipulate, to tell it that my output
is inline?"
