Currently the left navigation theme is more of an experiment than a useful plugin.

Given the recent survey of customers and the scarily large number that use this theme, we must spend some time improving it both in terms of quality and usefulness.

Concrete suggestions will follow once I get it deployed. (The ship-deployable-themes problem has already been fixed for 1.5).
