It strikes me as a major failing of the email support in Confluence to not natively support ssl to pop. It's hard to even find a POP account these days that doesn't require SSL. We certainly don't support this on our campus. Please consider adding native support for this in the default mail config.
We're also seeing a requirement for this at Codehaus - projects trying to grab mail from google mail.
IMAP or POP3/SSL would be great.
Same requirement here.....email passwords are tied into LDAP (single password across all campus apps) so security policy requires no insecure POP.
POP SSL support (just accept the certificate if it's self-signed by default) would be fantastic. Same here - gmail basically

Yes. This has been resolved in 2.2.5.
