I'm a big fan of tags for classifying information like it's done in del.icio.us. I was thinking it would be great if we could attach a set of tags to a Confluence page, find all pages with a given tag, see what tags have already been used before tagging a page, link to del.icio.us, Technorati and all those other "social software" sites out there that already use tags. etc. etc.

I think this is a brilliant idea for making Confluence pages / information available across more dimensions.

Whatever we do, we are NOT going to call this feature 'folksonomies', because I think the word is stupid.

Second that

Tags and categories are really the same implementation - the only difference lies in who can create the tags.

Is the implementation of tags going to be just in news, or will it be able to extend across different types of content, including mail, pages, and news?

Jens Schumacher [Atlassian] added a comment - 28/Jul/05 08:46 PM
technically all types of content can be labeled, But for now we are focusing on pages, news and spaces.

Paul Callahan added a comment - 27/Sep/05 03:54 PM
It would be terrific if this feature was implemented in the SOAP API as well. We have content tagging applications in-house that could be aggregated with Confluence via SOAP if the mechanism existed.
