Unable to edit user profile

      Tomcat with Jira external user management and mysql backend

      I have external user management on which doesn't allow a user to change their email or password, but the "Information about me" edit box is visable as well as the 'update' and 'cancel' buttons. If I enter in text and click the update button, the text disappears, but the profile page doesn't get updated.
