When you change the repository on perforce it tries to clear the directory defined in the client root, however this is changed to the new repository so wont match the old directory structure that actually needs clearing.

Probably need to look into the logic behind the clearing....

hhmm but I guess clearing's only needed if the current build directory is not empty? Do we really care if the old dir is left behind?

This isn't just a perforce problem. It happens in cvs as well when changing modules and when switching between repository types.
